As you know, we’ve spent a lot of time – and resources – fighting to win back religious exemptions for schoolchildren in states where they’ve been abolished. Currently that includes California, New York, Connecticut, and Maine. And we will continue those battles until we have won back religious freedom for every family in those states.
But there has been another fallout in states where religious freedom from mandatory vaccination has been eliminated, one perhaps even more sinister. That’s the loss of medical exemptions. Physicians and other health care professionals in those states, under intense scrutiny from the health departments and medical boards, have almost universally stopped writing medical exemptions for vaccinations, for fear of losing their medical licenses. So when politicians in those states tell you that medical exemptions are still available for all families, they’re flat out lying. Just because they’re still technically permitted by law, if no doctor in the state will write one, they are virtually non-existent.
But we’ve got a solution for that, too. Over the last year, we’ve fielded many requests for help from parents who are unable to obtain a medical exemption for their children. While we can’t provide anyone with a medical exemption because we don’t have doctors on staff, what we do is connect them with physicians in other, free states, who are willing to see their children as patients. These doctors do not promise to write anyone a medical exemption in advance, but they do promise to examine the child and his/her medical history and – if it’s medically warranted – to consider writing a medical exemption from one or more vaccinations.
That may not seem like much, but it’s extraordinarily important for these families. Remember, even parents of children who have suffered severe, documented adverse reactions immediately following vaccination have been unable to obtain medical exemptions in these states! So finding a doctor who is willing to see their child, and consider a medical exemption, is a life saver – in some cases, quite literally!
