On April 28, 2021, Connecticut Governor Ned Lamont signed Public Act 21-6 into law, eliminating the religious exemption to mandatory school vaccinations at all public and private schools in the state. That same day, we stood on the steps of the Connecticut Supreme Court at a press conference, vowing to file a federal lawsuit in an effort to strike down the unconstitutional law, and promising to take the battle all the way to the United States Supreme Court if necessary. Today, we have kept that promise, as we’ve filed a cert petition with the SCOTUS, asking the Justices to hear our appeal of the Second Circuit’s dismissal of our religious exemption lawsuit. Read our cert petition HERE.
If four Justices vote to hear our appeal, we will be appearing before the nation’s highest court as it considers – for the first time ever – whether a state may deny religious exemptions to vaccinations without violating the Constitution. If we are victorious, this case could restore religious exemptions not only in Connecticut, but in other states where they have been lost, such as California, New York, and Maine.
That is why we are calling on everyone in the medical freedom community to pull together and rally around this case. It is no exaggeration to say that if this case is heard by the Court, it will be the most important medical freedom case to be decided in our lifetimes, if not ever. For more than a century, the legacy of Jacobson v. Massachusetts, 197 U.S. 11 (1905) has done tremendous damage to Americans’ right to refuse vaccination mandates. This is the case that could finally undo that damage.
This litigation, and all of the other litigation we have been pursuing in defense of medical and religious freedom, is extraordinarily expensive.
