September 17, 2025 (Sacramento, CA) – Today Governor Gavin Newsom officially signed AB 144 into law, a measure which he says will allow California “to base future immunization guidance on credible, independent medical organizations rather than the CDC’s increasingly politicized Advisory Committee on Immunization Practices.”
At the same time, he announced an alliance with Governor Tina Kotek of Oregon, Governor Bob Ferguson of Washington, and Governor Josh Green of Hawaii, to release “winter virus vaccination recommendations through the West Coast Health Alliance (WCHA).” The WCHA will issue guidance regarding the 2025–26 COVID-19, influenza, and RSV vaccines.
These Governors are purporting to act in the best interest of the health and safety of California residents, painting Health and Human Services Secretary Robert F. Kennedy, Jr. and his revamped Advisory Committee on Immunization Practices (ACIP) as villains seeking to bring back disease epidemics to America. But this couldn’t be further from the truth. Instead, Secretary Kennedy and ACIP are seeking to root out decades of pharmaceutical industry corruption and influence at the CDA and FDA, making recommendations based on actual scientific research conducted without pharmaceutical industry bias. We spoke to one of the newest ACIP members, Dr. Robert Malone, this past weekend on the Sixth Annual Vaccine Safety Awareness Marathon. Make no mistake, what happened today is just yet another attack on the health freedom of Californians, and all the people living in Oregon, Washington, and Hawaii who will be subjected to the dictates of the new WCHA. That is why our lawsuit to restore the religious exemption for California families, currently pending on an emergency petition to the U.S. Supreme Court, is more important than ever. A victory at the U.S. Supreme Court could not only restore the right of every Californian to refuse unwanted vaccinations, but also restore it for the millions of families living in New York, Connecticut, Maine, and West Virginia who have also had their right to refuse stripped from them, collectively 20 percent of the nation’s population.
